Honestly, color management in windows is kind of a mess, photoshop and bridge are the only programs in my regularly-used rotation that I feel like I can trust when it comes to color. My Win10 desktop and laptop displays are both calibrated, but I'm not fully color managed on either system outside of photoshop and a handful of other programs that support full color management (the most notable of which is irfanview, but that's only when viewing jpegs/tiffs and only if you have the color management plug-in installed and enabled). I don't have any experience with MacOS, but color management in windows could definitely be improved. Replace quicken for macIt's just stupid when there are maybe only 3 models on the market that really compete with the Macbook Pro in terms of quality (and I hate the new Macbook too, the keyboard sucks). The nice ones, like the Samsung, Apple chargers, use better components and perform much better than cheaper competition. The people who are downvoting me probably think that one LCD is exactly the same as another LCD, a CPU is exactly the same as another CPU, there's no difference between higher tolerance hard drives used for servers vs cheaper hard drives, etc.The fun part is that I don't even use an Apple device as a primary computer, but it's not hard to be objectively neutral and see that the engineers at Apple for the most part are still very tough on their quality policies (unless their designers overrule them, I'm looking at you frayed iphone cables). Spoiler alert: not all of them actually constantly put out 5 volts. Of course, ignorant consumers buy $300 Dell laptops and then bash anyone who buys a $1500 Dell laptop or $1800 Apple laptop for being stupid. Also, have you heard of Intel "binning" CPUs, which is why some CPUs have higher headroom and can be overclocked higher? Similarly, Apple gets the good ones for components in a similar matter, too.Individual electronic components, like a single capacitor, MOSFET, etc, all have different quality levels too. Here's a teardown of a bunch of chargers, which are all labeled 5 volt chargers. Premium brands like Dell's UltraSharp (and Apple, etc) demand the best panels, but Dell puts much crappier panels into their budget E series, their consumer laptops, etc. That's also why "cheap Korean IPS panels" was a big thing a few years ago, those are rejected Apple parts. The only trick is that while Apple and other companies use the highest-grade (let's say, A+, for example) for their displays, when glass comes off the line that's not at that level (let's say, A) the manufacturer doesn't want to just get rid of it, so they sell it to discount display companies to make some money off of it.This is display-specific, but rest assured this exists for other components as well different quality parts can roll off a single assembly line, let alone different factories. ![]()
